Righteous

Born 1972 in Brooklyn New York, Kings County General Hospital, he was the first child of two loving and artistic parents. It was quite obvious how his parents’ influence affected him musically in the years to come. Both his parents were accomplished artists in different fields, his father as an aspiring writer and his mother as a gifted gospel singer.

After relocating to Toronto Canada he fell in love with rap music and Hip Hop Culture on a whole. He found himself enveloped & participating in then the so-called phenomenon, of the time. As a fan of the music he began writing, break dancing, beat boxing as well as tagging up his name wherever possible. Although he was well aware of Raps existence since The Sugar Hill gangs debut (Rappers Delight) and Grand Master Flash and the Furious Fives (The Message) he began writing and emceeing in 1984.
It wasn’t until 1986 when he first heard and saw KRS One (Boogie Down Productions) perform at the famed concert hall in Toronto that he was truly inspired and knew he would be a living example of Hip Hop for life.
He began honing his skills as an Emcee and began performing at various showcases and opening for many renowned artists of the time. 1993 saw his first release “Flex “n” Flava” followed by “Feel the Real” on the now defunct Radio Active Label. Although the releases received rave reviews and wide air play on local radio stations, Energy 108, CIUT 89.5 and Much Music etc….
marketing constraints meant his career never reached it’s full potential, however as he was also known as one the first promoters to promote Hip Hop parties in and around the city of Toronto with the likes of Ron Nelson, Al Hutchinson a.k.a. [Hutchie or Al Capone] and Adrian King a.k.a. DJ X. Before there was Honey Jam he promoted Night of the Females amongst other Hip Hop events giving local acts a chance to shine. His career as a promoter began to expand. Righteous found himself working with other promoters across the city that led to some of the biggest Hip Hop concerts Toronto had ever seen for that period of time. Never truly leaving the music scene led to various collaborations over the next few years till now.
As a seasoned performer and artist, Righteous has been through the ups and downs of the music industry and with that experience is ready to take the world by storm with the debut of his new singles Cause and Effect/Rule of Thumb on his new label and home CIGAH Music. With label mates Thirst, Sylent Sam and Mark Theland the synergy created by them performing is undeniable as is the substance of their music.
